NWOBHM の古強者 RAVEN が6年振りの新作 “EXTERMINATION” をリリースしました！実に素晴らしいアルバムだと思います。ロートルだとか古臭いだとかいった言葉は全く当てはまりません！徹頭徹尾120%へヴィーでハードなロックアルバムです。確かに速さや過激さ、テクニックのみを求めるならば THRASH, DEATH METAL や METAL CORE を聴いていれば良いでしょう。ただちょうどハードロック、グラム、パンクにメタルの中間地点に生を受けた RAVEN の作る音楽には独特のグルーヴ、中毒性が存在します。NEAT RECORDS で VENOM 共々ほぼイロモノとしてデビューした彼らですがアルバムを聴けば実際は卓越した演奏、作曲能力を兼ね備えている事が判りますね。実際 “EXTERMINATION” は収録時間の非常に長い作品ですが、楽曲のバリエーション、絶妙なキャッチーさ、個々のフレーズの引っ掛かりが実に見事で冗長に感じるどころか一気に聴けてしまいます。また彼らの代表作として “LIVE AT THE INFERNO” を挙げる人は多いと思います。代表作がライブアルバムという昨今のバンドは皆無でしょう。アルバムと全く同じように再現されたライブアルバムに価値などないからです。”LIVE AT THE INFERNO” には、勿論当時彼らのスタジオアルバムにお金がかかっていなかったというのもありますが、スポンテニアスで圧倒的な生の興奮が詰め込まれています。そんな彼らのライブを体験出来る7月の来日公演、過去作の再発も決定!!。弊誌ではビリー･シーンと並び称されたベーシストでありスーパースクリーマー、JOHN GALLAGHER にインタビューを行う事が出来ました。どうぞ！！

90年代、日本はハードロック、メロディックロックの一大保護区でした。グランジ/オルタナティブ全盛の海外で見向きもされないような HAREM SCAREM, FAIR WARNING, TEN といったバンドがブレイクし、MR. BIG のようなアメリカでは”終わった”バンドも大人気でした。勿論その弊害としてグランジ/オルタナティブの評価が遅れた事は残念ですが、良いメロディーを持った良いバンドを守ったのは確実に日本でした。ただそういったバンドにも翳りが見え目立った後進も現れなかった２０００年代以降、このジャンルは日本でも過去の遺物として扱われる事が増えたような気がします。残念だけど仕方がない TERRA NOVA の1stでも聴いて余生を過ごすか・・・と思っていたあなたに朗報です！！NYC から現れたニューカマー、STATION は本物です！ビッグなコーラス、フラッシーなギター、そして胸を熱く焦がすようなメロディー。VAN HALEN + DEF LEPPARD + SKID ROW がファーストインプレッションでした。大げさではなく彼らなら死に絶えた HR を復活させてくれるかもしれません。BURRN! の幅さんがNYに飛ぶ気配もないので弊誌が独占インタビューです。どうぞ。

ドイツからメタルシーンに最も影響を与え続けてきたバンドの一つ HELLOWEEN。5/29 にニューアルバム “MY GOD-GIVEN RIGHT” をリリースする事が決定しました。1985年にデビュー EP “HELLOWEEN” をリリースしてちょうど30年。プロデューサーに Charlie Bauerfeind (BLIND GUARDIAN, HAMMERFALL)、アートワークに Martin Häusler (BON JOVI, QUEEN, GOTTHARD) を起用し万全の体制で製作されました。

自分でもどうやったか見当もつかないんだけど、なんとかもう一度やり遂げる事が出来たよ・・・このアルバムは本当にロックしてるしメジャーなものより全然いいよ！！！素晴らしい人たちと共に作り上げたんだ。プロデューサーの Charlie Bauerfeind はもちろん今回のストレスなく全ての色を確認できる 3D アートワークを作ってくれた Martin Hausler もね。

»Worship…« was made up of a lot of different types of songs, some thrashy, some very mid-90s ANTHRAX-sounding, but this new one is really thrashy.”
“The thing about ANTHRAX… we have this heavy, thrashy music and Joey’s powerful and melodic vocals. I love heavy music, but I also love melody, so the challenge is to blend them together so they sound like ANTHRAX, and I think we’ve done a really good job of that, especially on this new record.
I know that there are a lot of expectations out there for this new album, but that doesn’t really affect us because we write the way we write. We’re all from New York, so we love a challenge, and while I’m happy to have people say that ANTHRAX is back and that ‘Worship Music’ was the best album of our career, we raised the bar on this one, I think we have the goods with the new songs, and I’m proud to say that. At the end of the day, all you can do is have it come from the heart, do your best, and hope that people like it. That’s what we did with ‘Worship Music,’ and look what happened.”
“The lyrics I write tend to go along with the way the music sounds, and this new music is very angry, Lots of people said that »Worship Music« was a return to the roots of the band…well, this record is even more so. Unlike »Worship Music,« we wrote this new album with a line-up, with Joey in the band, and that has made all the difference in the world. Joey being a part of the band again, going on five years already, it definitely feels like a unit. Everything that was great about him on ‘Worship’ is there even more on this new record.”
ZUMA & MINAMIN OF FRUITPOCHETTE TALK ABOUT THEIR FIRST FULL ALBUM “THE CREST OF EVIL” AND MORE !!
住民の98%が接続詞”から”の代わりに”けん”を使用し、ポンジュースを麦茶のように一日２ℓは必ず摂取するという温泉とチンチン電車の愛媛は松山から MAD MAGAZINE が送り出したメタル系ガールズグループ FRUITPOCHETTE。２枚同時発売のシングルに続いて遂に 1st フルアルバムがリリースされました。”THE CREST OF EVIL”。ガールズグループらしからぬ”輩”と化した２人のイラストが印象的なジャケットですが、彼女たちの成長を如実に感じられる素晴らしい作品です。まだアルバムからのPVが届いていないのが残念なのですが、上に貼った1st EP からの”暴虐-PARASITE-“に比べると歌唱の安定感、声量、感情表現が明らかに一段も二段も進化しているのが判ります。加えて WHEN MY LIFE IS OVER の遠藤元気氏、ALFRED の山下智輝氏が作詞作曲を手掛けた楽曲の数々は本格的なイエテボリサウンドからピコリーモ、V系にも通じるようなエピカルなものまでバラエティーに富んでいて非常に魅力的。インタビュー中でも触れられている通り「BABYMETAL には楽曲的には負けてないと思う」という言葉も決して大風呂敷ではないと思いました。ぜひこのインタビューでフルポシェ東志栞（ずま）さんと寺谷美奈（みなみん）さんの「エエとこ」をよう知ってくださいね。

長く待たせたね。NIGHTWISH のMV “ELAN” が遂に到着したよ！語られる事のなかったフィンランドの未開の土地の物語にインスパイアーされたんだ。製作にはほとんど１年を要したよ。フィンランドの最も愛されている俳優たちを起用したんだ。同時に NIGHTWISH のシンボルであるワシミミズクの URHO もね。

First of all, thank you for being so enthousiactic about our band !
It is hard to explain our music to be honest. Futurologie is our latest EP after two full-lenght albums, an only 8bit/chiptune EP and an OST for a documentary about a tournament of the game Street Fighter II. The purpose of our music is always to create tracks without any boundaries, just composing things we like : metal, electronic, jazz, classical, world or movies/games-inflenced…

正直、僕たちの音楽を説明するのは難しいね。”FUTUROLOGIE” は僕たちの最新の EP なんだ。以前には2枚のフルアルバムと 8bit/chiptune オンリーの EP, STREET FIGHTER 2 トーナメントの OST をリリースしているよ。僕たちの目的は好きな音楽を限界なしで製作する事なんだ。METAL, ELECTRONIC, JAZZ, CLASSICAL, WORLD MUSIC, MOVIE/GAME なんかの影響を受けているよ。
Futurologie was composed to be a stand-alone long track, with a bonus full orchestral version. This EP is mostly influenced by movies, it is thought to be some kind of a visual song. Usually, we work with a computer for composition and arrangements and then we learn to play some of the tracks for live shows. We are considered like a metal band cause we have electric guitars and some blastbeats but i don’t think we have a true unique music style. We generally speak about « rococo-core » : it means a style with too many music tags, too many different arrangements, and of course too many notes. But we are not confortable with genres in general. We just play the music we like without thinking too much about a concept.
About Japan, we are extremely inflenced by Japanese culture, specially music and movies and obviously video games. We all use to listen to a lot of Koenji Hyakkei and Ruinsfor example. Also electronic artists like Ryoji Ikeda and Masami Akita, or even jazz bands like Soil and Pimp Sessions. I’m also a big fan of Japanese movies : directors like Shozin Fukui, Sion Sono, Katsuhito Ishii, Hitochi Matsumoto and Shinya Tsukamoto… All those directors work without compromises, in an extreme way. The movie « Funky forrest » is a perfect example of what i’m talking about : no boundaries, no limits, the explosion of codes from typical movie genres and also lot’s of poetry and humouristic things… For me, Japan is one the most creative country, and of course Japanese artists never stop to influence us. It was also the case for lot’s of 80’s/90’s videogame musics ( we even have a side project band of covers from various retrogames music ). Our babysitters were Megaman (known as « Rockman » in Japan) and Castlevania and the music from these games is fantastic. That explains the heavy use of chiptune sounds in Pryapisme.
We really hope we can travel to play in Japan one day. It’s a goal to reach for us since the beginning of the band. That and making music for a Japanese project ( film or game ). Maybe one day…
