2012年、鳴り物入りで、満を持して、SLUDGE/POST-METAL 界の救世主としてデビューを飾った BLACK SHEEP WALL。 ELECTRIC WIZARD のドロドロで混沌とした引きずり女的 DOOMY な要素と INTRONAUT のプログレッシブでお洒落な代官山アトレ的要素を混合したような音楽性はブレイクの予感を充分に感じさせました。EPを挟んでそれから２年。何か物々しいタイトルの彼らの新作 “I’M GOING TO KILL MY SELF” からだいぶ危なっかしい曲名の “WHITE PIG” が届きました。またしても10分弱という「このレーベルの人売る気あるんだろうか」と思わざるを得ない長尺1stシングルですが内容は素晴らしいです。前半の全てを薙ぎ倒すような 強烈SLUDGE からプログレッシブに神々しさすら纏って荘厳に展開していく様は実に見事ですね。というか結局ジャケが出落ち感満載なのであまり語ってもしょうがないですね。ぜひ過去作共々聴いてみてください。

【ABOUT “THE ANIMAL YOU ARE”】
The Animal You Are, engineered and produced by Sean Douglas (The Franklys, The Graveltones, Django Django) and mastered by Justin Paul Hill (Sikth, Yashin, Young Guns), is a dynamic, soulful and groove laden ride into the band’s unique take on modern prog rock and metal, echoing not only contemporary greats such as Karnivool and Gojira but also with a firm rooting back into the glory days of grunge and prog with a nod of the head to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden and Smashing Pumpkins. Despite many of these influences the album still retains a distinctly British feel thanks to their unconventional approach to recording which unlike many of their contemporaries, keeps it all live, all analogue and put down on vintage equipment.

Hello, I hope you like this song “The Most Popular Form Of Escape”, it is from the album Arcade Messiah, which comes out on November 24th and will be available as a (free pay what you want) download on bandcamp . The idea for this instrumental album was partly inspired from listening to the soundtrack of the Anime series “Death Note”. I watched that series at the start of this year and enjoyed it very much but it was the soundtrack and the vibe I took from it which stayed with me and initially got me thinking about making an instrumental album. 全曲先行試聴させて頂きましたが前作“ANTHILL” の流れを汲んでさらに発展させたような素晴らしい作品になっていると思います。MESHUGGAH, GOJIRA, DEVIN TOWNSEND, TOOL, KING CRIMSON, DJENT・・・。そういったプログレッシブでインテリジェントなバンド達にエスニックな要素を加えたような音楽はコンセプト作という枠組みの中でさらにその唯一無二感を高めていますね。特に今回提供して頂いた曲はそのアルバム内でも一際輝きを放っていました。まるで読経のようなボーカルラインから東欧の民謡のようなヴァイオリンパートへ突入する様は圧巻でまさに和洋折衷メタル。ぜひ試聴してみて下さい！！
【ABOUT “THE UNKNOWN CITIZENS”】
The Unknown Citizens :
The Unknown Citizens is based on the poem by W.H. Auden, « the unknown citizens”. He relates the fates of three ordinary citizens. Auden writes « Were they free ? Were they happy ? The question is absurd ; if something was wrong, we would have known for sure ». The album takes a closer look at that question.
The Unknown Citizens is a three-parted concept album. Each part is very different from the two others and has its own atmosphere, its own intruments and its own sound shades. In the end, the sum of these three parts forms a whole.
Each life is composed of three tunes. They tell the three important stages of the life of the character.
First there is « the fighter », a WW1 french soldier. After he fought in the trenches then against his demons, he finally finds peace in the oblivion and in death.After war and destruction comes the generation of « the worker ». He dedicates his life to the rebuilding of the destroyed world and sacrifices his personal goals for the legacy he’s leaving to the next generation.
And finally there is « the dreamer » who was born in a « peaceful and comfortable » world. He’s less worried about material matters, but he has to be careful when he comes back down to earth …
There is this kind of fatality in each of these lives. The thread of their existence is mostly determined by the place and the day they were born.

Why do we choice to present a song of the “Worker’s life”, to the Japanese auditors ? When we first thought about the worker, it remind us the Japanese people who have to rebuilt their country after world war 2. We also decide to make our next stop motion video clip based on “You Know You’re Trapped”, he will be finished around January 2015.
So we hope you’ll enjoy this song, and our new album !! We are very proud of it !! We never went to Japan but it’s a dream to do it one day !! Hope to see you soon, cheers from France !!

In this new release, Ummagma rise above the decay and mayhem encountered in that country to embrace diversity and beauty, while taking their music in new directions. ‘Kiev’ is not only the epicenter of massive civil unrest – it is the name of this release, and is ultimately a message of hope. The outcome shows that what is the end for one person may be the start for another. In ‘Kiev’, this Canadian-Ukrainian team celebrates their freedoms, exploring the root of today’s problems to create beauty in the face of hostility. Even more importantly, it shows that beauty can blossom even in the midst of ugliness. Despite heavy turmoil in Ukraine, Ummagma look forward to a brighter future for Eastern Europe.
This release is an impressive package featuring the original track ‘Kiev’ plus 9 remixes from 9 fantastic artists from as many countries, celebrating the splendour of the original composition in their own unique styles. One of these artists is Japanese producer Shintaro Haioka, who is one of just three Red Bull Music Academy artists from Japan, renowned for mixing traditional Japanese instrumentation, such as the koto, with electronic chill sounds. In the words of the Academy, which is now underway in Tokyo, “Haioka offers a distinctively Japanese take on modern electronic music, and one that rationalises the past with the future, and his nation with the world.”
今回のリリースは ‘KIEV’ のオリジナルトラックと様々な国の9人の素晴らしいアーティストがリミックスを行った ‘KIEV’ の9バージョンが収められています。それぞれが独自のスタイルでオリジナルの楽曲に輝きを与えています。その中に一人、日本人アーティストがいます。RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY に所属する日本人3人の中の一人、SHINTARO HAIOKA です。琴のような和楽器をミックスする事で有名ですね。アカデミーの言葉を引用すると、「HAIOKA は彼独特の過去と未来、日本と世界を結ぶようなモダンなエレクトロミュージックを創造している」という風に紹介されています。
Once again we have the fortune of working with a good record label and also the opportunity to introduce our music to you. For this, we are thankful. This release is a bit different than the Sounds of Sputnik release, which recently premiered here in Marunouchi Musik Magazine, because it’s just Ummagma, our duo, which was created and blossomed on the basis of love. We have been experiencing a very strange time in our lives due to the war in Ukraine, but it has united us even more and made us even more determined to make music – to create something beautiful – even if many people are looking in the other direction. This song ‘Kiev’ is a statement about everything wrong with our greedy society, but the song ends on a note filled with hope. Love, light and hope – that is what we wish – for everyone and, most immediately, for anyone taking the time to listen to this music. “We present to you ‘Painters Of The Tempest Part 3’…another piece of the 23 minute song that forms the centrepiece of our new album ‘Citadel’. This is the final part of the song and it follows straight after ‘Part 2, Movement 3: Curator’ that was the taste taste of our new album released online earlier this month. We definitely feel that ‘Painters Of The Tempest in its entirety is our most ambitious work to date and Part 3, featuring only acoustic guitar and violin and showcasing a completely different side to the band, is something we are particular proud of.”
