Highly appreciated. Think it&#8217;s been 30 years. I feel very humble and at the same time very thankful. Gipsy Power was a big musical journey for me on a personal level. I have always been a curious person. That\u2019s why I dedicated as a 17 year old guitarist, to leave my small hometown G\u00e4vle in Sweden, for Los Angeles, California, to pursue my dream of becoming a full-scale professional guitarist. At the Musicians Institute in Hollywood I was fortunate to be able to study for recognized masters such as Steve Trovato, Scott Henderson and Paul Gilbert. I was extremely ambitious and practiced obsessively between 12-15 hours per day. In my early twenties I played with fellow music students in a power trio featuring the accomplished musician, drummer and vocalist Scot Coogan (Ace Frehley, George Lynch, LA Guns a.o.) and bass player Scott Shriner (Weezer, Vanilla Ice, The Cars a.o.).<br \/>\nLike many other Swedish guitarists, we had a lot to thank Yngwie Malmsteen for. I was fully aware that I could never play like him, but I knew I was talented enough to try to make my own musical career. Then I came in contact with the virtuoso Eastern European traditional folk music, or Gipsy Power, as it is known among those who play it. A demo cassette landed later at the desc of Mike Varney, the legendary talent scout and musical inventor for the label Shrapnel Records. At the time he who wrote about young talented guitarplayers in Guitar World and he had discovered parts of my idols like Yngwie Malmsteen, who was in his own division, but then there was Paul Gilberg, Russ Parrish (a.k.a. Satchel) and Johnny Monaco, all of whom I later got to meet and play with on various occasions. It was truly a dream came true when Mike Varney wrote in Guitar World \u201dSteven reveals a gift of composing original material that is both raw and aggressive. It is hauntingly melodic, with crisp and concise solos\u201d.<br \/>\nGipsy Power was the beginning of my professional career as a musician, artist and guitarist. I signed contracts with Zero Corporation\/MVP (EMI-Toshiba), Warner Music and Universal Publishing. Then it was followed up by a sponsorship deal with Gibson Guitars US. was great because, unlike the shredders of that era, it mixed advanced techniques with influences as diverse as Jimi Hendrix, gypsy music, and ethnic traditional music. Why did you take a different approach than the popular &#8220;Shrapnel&#8221; guitarists of that era?<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">\u3010STEVEN\u3011: <\/span><\/strong><\/span><em>That is a good question. You rarely get a second chance to make a first impression. I had some of my American friends who were great guitarists and I knew I needed to do something different that they hadn&#8217;t exactly done.<br \/>\nI guess I never was the typical archetype for a traditional guitar hero, I focused on taking my music forward and explore new different ways of musical expression. Thats were I founded my inspiration in the sounds of the Swedish mysterious and enchanting forest and the Nordic light and through my journeys in Eastern Europe. Eastern European music has its challenges with fast technical parts, while at the same time there is extremely much that is both challenging and developing.<br \/>\nI then started writing my own music. Gipsy Power got a Swedish Grammy-nomination with the self-titled debut album Gipsy Power that was released at the age of 24. The album was produced by Claes Olson and recorded with the late Mats Lindfors (Roxette, John Norum, Scorpions, Talisman, Yngwie Malmsteen a.o.) at Park Studios in Stockholm. In a short time I signed contract with Zero Corporation\/MVP (EMI-Toshiba) in Japan, and Young Guitar and BURRN gaved my albums good attention, also a middle spread with a calendar poster in the December issue in BURRN.<br \/>\nIn the nineties I used to have oriental dancers together on stage with both a snake charmer and two jesters. At the time I also wrote and performed music on commission for electric guitar and symphony orchestra.<br \/>\nLike many others, I listened to all the artists that Mike Varney released on his legendary label Shrapnel Records. At one point he actually told me how to play a solo before I was entering a studiosession, which then ended up on the demo track that Mike Varney highlighted in Guitar World.<br \/>\nToday I interpret Jimi Hendrix instrumentals with my band COSMIC COMMAND. It was also a challenge that felt natural and perhaps above all creative. To be able to interpret Jimi Hendrix instrumentally does not only mean lots of guitar solos, it&#8217;s about trying to find a musical expression based on his singing style. It has its challenging moments. I love it!<br \/>\nBut like many other, when I grew up, I listen to Deep Purple &#8211; Made in Japan and learned the Highway Star solo at an early age. What a fantastic solo. Mindblowing! Later on I started a coverband where we interpreted the classic Mark II repertoire.<br \/>\nA friend took me to a concert when I was 15 years old. He said &#8220;Steven, you&#8217;re going to like this&#8221;. We were on a school trip in Denmark. That concert was a revelation. There were 300 people, we stood along the front of the stage, and there he was, Yngwie Malmsteen, playing all the songs from the first two albums. It changed my whole life. As for several other millions of guitarists. A breathtaking moment! Only once in a lifetime.<br \/>\nJohn Norum has also meant a lot as a guitarist. His tone is extraordinary and it&#8217;s not something you can copy. It&#8217;s about finding your own expression first and then letting the tone develop inside of you. I love his way of combining the melodic with the raw and soulful, just the same way Yngwie Malmsteen does, but with his own playing style. My favorite guitarist today is Philip Sayce, he has the same expression, the same energy, although he does it in his personal way. That\u2019s what I always have been aiming for.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>At the new millennium I commenced with studies of the Arabic string instrument Tar under the Persian master Ali Shakuori. I also did private investigations of the gipsy music scene in Vienna, Austria, and spent time in Istanbul participating in cross-border collaborations with Turkish painters, artists and musicians.<br In the late noughties I started to get serious problems with my arms, with a following inflammation. After numerous lithotripsies, cortisone injections and different acupuncture techniques I was forced to put my guitar on the shelf, where it more or less was left untouched, close to ten years. But in 2012, I decided to give it a try. So after a long hiatus, with a slightly rawer style, with greater playing joy, as when he was 15 years old, I took a personal giant leap and started to play the guitar again. And today it works more than well, in some part I am a much better guitar player than before.<br \/>\nDuring the time I was away from the music scene, the internet developed, and I took on a new career as a business- and brand developer and communication strategist. It may sound like a long way from the musical career, but in a way, it is about the same thing. It took me couple of years to find myself in a new expression. Then I made plans for a new band called Electric Religions and began composing classic hard rock music. The band later made several its tours to China. The first in 2014 and we performed in front of an audience of more than 30 000 people at the Zhuhai International Beach Rock Music Festival. We also did small club tours at different venues, for an audience from 20 people and up to 300 people, such as the classic rock club Yu Gong Yi Shan Music Bar in Beijing. During to second tour in China a documentary was produced that later was awarded the gold prize at The 6th Macau International Movie Festival, where we also performed our Bruce Lee-tribute Lee Chao Long. In the crowd the famous actor Jean-Claude Van Damme (Kickboxer, Timecop, Double Impact a.o.) was seen playing air guitar with the us during the performance, it was a fantastic experience. He cheered and expressed his great appreciation in memory of the legendary martial artist Bruce Lee. Through our lyrics we aimed to express different stories born out of our interest and inspiration from Asian culture, philosophy and history. It all came together and was expressed through a hybrid multi-cultural oriented rock music. But after three intensive years with Electric Religions I, together with my friends in the band, decided to put the band to rest.<br \/>\nThen I started to outline my plans for the comeback of my band Steven Anderson\u2019s Gipsy Power \u2013 with new music, new faces and new albums. Today I have also started a new vocal-oriented, heavier and harder, band that has been named G.O.D. (Grooves Of Destruction), together with two of Sweden&#8217;s more experienced musicians and together with a world-class vocalist.<br \/>\nI still keep on playing with the urge of expressing myself through the guitar and constantly trying to move forward and see new opportunities. I guess I am just like a kid, curious, energetic and passionate, like I was when I started to play as a youngster. I don\u2019t take anything for granted, and what I am passionate about is playing live and to be creative among friendly music lovers. It\u2019s about finding new ways in how music can reach out to an audience that like progressive music such as Gipsy Power and COSMIC COMMAND. It\u00b4s about music that is raw, dirty and groovy psychedelic and at the same time truthful and genuine.<br \/>\nI am grateful I got a second chance to do what I love more than anything else, to I have included some of those songs on Gipsy Power &#8221; Electric Threads&#8221; and also on the upcoming release &#8220;Boundless Obscurity&#8221; that will take place in spring 2024. There I will also play a medley based on Gipsy Fly and Back To Orient from my debut album. It also includes a liverecording from the legendary Hansa Studios in Berlin that we did with Gipsy Power 2022. I wanted to express the same feeling as from my debut and I hope that the listeners will hear a guitarist still as hungry, with the same tone and love for playing the guitar.<br \/>\nThen in summer of 2024 I am going to start to record an album that will combine instrumental as well as vocal oriented songs with the same style as my Gipsy Power debut. But first I&#8217;m going to launch my artist website, then I Am going to look for a concert promoter in Japan, who might be interested in working with me for some club tours in Japan, with both COSMIC COMMAND and Gipsy Power.
