かのメタル世界のゴールド・ロジャー、RUNNING WILD がジョリー・ロジャーの旗の下航海に旅立ってからおよそ40年。パイレーツ・メタルという異端の生みの親がフェスのヘッドラインを飾るようになった21世紀。その多様で寛容なメタルのグランドラインに颯爽と登場したのは、5人の女海賊でした。5人にとってのワンピースとは、すなわち海闊天空。悠遠に広がるメタルの海がただ、寛容で、親切で、平等な場所であること。そして、その秘宝は必ずや音の戦、実力で手に入れます。
「故郷のリクシオンは浮島で、いつも簡単に見ることができるわけではないんだ。リクシオンでの生活は自由の香りがいっぱいで、主に女性がリードしているの。もちろん男性もいるけどね。古い航海年代記には、海賊の才能によって結ばれた血縁関係にある5人の少女たちが一堂に会する時が来るという予言が記されているの。そして激動の2023年、私たちは実際にメインランドで再会した。浮島はそんなに大きくないから、とにかくみんな顔見知り。だから、すべては自然に起こったことなの」
ただし、PIRATE QUEEN の5人は RUNNING WILD よりもはるかに年上です。年代期に残る古い記録によると、彼女たちは1523年に海賊を始めています。バミューダ・トライアングルの中にある謎の浮島リクシオンに生を受け、500年もの長い時を刻んできた PIRATE QUEEN の5人は、女王に忠誠を誓いながら世界各地で領海を広げ、名声を上げ、ついに再集結を果たします。すべては、女王の名の下に。音楽の自由、メタルの自由こそ、今の彼女たちが欲する宝。

実際、PIRATE QUEEN の海賊船に踏破できない海はありません。女海賊たちは7つの海へと繰り出し、エピック・メタルの遺産を驚くべき技術とモダンな精神で略奪していきます。クラシックなメタルに壮大なセンスを吹き込み、古の襲撃者たちからインスピレーションを得つつ、未知の海域に踏み込み、見慣れぬジャンルから略奪した宝物でメタルを豊かにしていくのです。
漂流する船の音とセイレーンの歌声。荒波の中で5人はリスナーをフォークとエキゾチックなメロディーの渦に巻き込み、海洋ファンタジーと壮大なメタルの精神を呼び起こします。女王陛下のカリスマ性と海賊たちの無限のエネルギーは、ボーカル・ハーモニー、オーケストレーションを巻き込んで幾重にも重なるメタルの聖地マリージョアをここに完成させたのです。
今回弊誌では、ギタリストにして海賊大将 Victoria Pearl Fata-Morgana にインタビューをおこなうことができました。「リクシオンの海賊の世界も変わってきていて、意見の食い違いがあっても絶対に暴力や戦争が解決策になってはいけないと思っているのよ。我々は海賊で、我々が生き残るために何をしてきたかについて、いろいろと言われることは知っているの。でも、今は戦争は避けなければならないと心から信じている」 “Ghosts” の妖艶な転調がたまりませんね。どうぞ！！

INTERVIEW WITH VICTORIA
Q1: I understand you are from a city called Lyxion in the Bermuda Triangle? What is it like there?
【VICTORIA】: Yes! Actually, Lyxion is a floating island which isn’t always easy to see. Life in Lyxion smells like freedom, and it is mainly led by women, although there are men too, of course. There’s plenty of nature in there, especially mountains, which are my safe place whenever I need to escape sometimes from life in the sea. Also, in Lyxion we have different cities and regions: they’re really different from each other.
Q1: あなたはバミューダ・トライアングルの中にあるリクシオンという街の出身だそうですね？そこはどんなところなんですか？
【VICTORIA】: そうなの！実は、リクシオンは浮島で、いつも簡単に見ることができるわけではないんだ。リクシオンでの生活は自由の香りがいっぱいで、主に女性がリードしているの。もちろん男性もいるけどね。自然も豊かで、特に山は、海の生活からときどき逃避したくなったときの私の安全な場所。また、リクシオンにはさまざまな都市や地域があって、それぞれが本当に異なっているの。
Q2: What kind of music did you grow up listening to in Lyxion? Why did you choose metal?
【VICTORIA】: It came very naturally. We all like classical music and metal, and also we all share music bands in common, but it’s true that each one of us likes different types of metal too. In Lyxion there’s no judgment when listening to all kinds of music, although there are music genres that are not as popular, of course. There is also an important character that must be mentioned: Barbatos. He’s our friend who also helps us when in need to be inspired and create music. The inspiration to play metal comes also from many artists and bands such as Mercyful fate, Alice Cooper, Megadeth, Doors….
Q2: リクシオンではどんな音楽を聴いて育ったのですか？なぜメタルを選んだのでしょうか？
【VICTORIA】: ごく自然にそうなったの。私たちはみんなクラシック音楽とメタルが好きで、共通の音楽バンドに所属している。リクシオンでは、もちろん人気のない音楽ジャンルもあるけど、あらゆる音楽を聴くことに先入観はないの。
そして、言及しなければならない重要なキャラクターがいるわ。バルバトスよ。彼は私たちの友人であり、インスピレーションを得て音楽を創作する必要があるときに私たちを助けてくれる。メタルをプレイするインスピレーションは、MERCYFUL FATE, Alice Cooper, MEGADETH, DOORS…といった多くのアーティストやバンドから得ているわ。
Q3: Why did you start a metal band with only female pirates?
【VICTORIA】: The old nautical chronicles mention a prophecy which says that there would come a time when a group of five girls, who are related and united by the gift of piracy, would come together. And it really happened in the ungodly year 2023, when we reunited in the Mainland. The floating island is not that big, so we all know each other anyway.
So it is mainly something that naturally happened.

Q4: What are you people fighting against? Of course, the number of women in the metal world has increased, but prejudice and discrimination still remain. Of course, female pirates would have been rare in the past. Are you fighting against those things as well?
【VICTORIA】: I’d say we actually fight against any kind of injustice. We want the metal scene to be a safe and kind place for every musician who wants to be in it, and that means everyone. As a woman I believe we all have the same chances to reach our goals in music world and it must not be divided by gender.
Q4: 海賊に戦いはつきものめすが、あなたたちは何と戦っているのでしょう？
もちろん、メタル世界に女性の数は増えてきましたが、それでも偏見や差別はまだ残っています。女海賊にしても、かつては非常に珍しかったでしょう。そういった少数派の代表として音楽を発信しているのでしょうか？
【VICTORIA】: 私たちは実際、あらゆる不正義と戦っていると言えるでしょうね。私たちはメタル・シーンが、そこにいたいと願うすべてのミュージシャン、すべての人にとって安全で親切な場所であってほしいと切に願っているの。

Q5: Musically you guys have a great mix of symphonic elements and Viking folk music in your metal. Is mixing the traditional with the modern a theme of your band?
【VICTORIA】: We use the term “Fantasy metal”. We consider it a mix of metal styles and classical. It’s close to power metal, but I would say it contains more fantasy elements, maybe. When we compose we prefer not to be tagged in a genre, because as we compose new sounds come up, that’s the gift of freedom of the pirate: we can move around as long as we like what we created.
Q5: 音楽的には、あなた方のメタルにはモダンなシンフォニックな要素とヴァイキングの民族音楽が見事にミックスされています。
伝統的なものと現代的なものをミックスすることは、あなた方のバンドのテーマなのでしょうか？
【VICTORIA】: 私たちは “ファンタジー・メタル” という言葉を使っているのよ。メタル・スタイルとクラシックのミックスだと思っている。パワー・メタルに近いけれど、よりファンタジー的な要素を含んでいると言えるかもしれない。

Q6: What story is being told in “Ghosts”?
【VICTORIA】: The second single, Ghosts, is dark and spooky heavy metal. It tells a story about a seance, as our majesty Maria Aurea has the capability to communicate with spirits. So yes, it basically explains our experience in the seance in which we talked to old souls that belonged to the piracy world, just like us.
Q6: “Ghosts” ではどのようなストーリーが語られているのでしょう？
【VICTORIA】: セカンド・シングル “Ghosts” は、ダークで不気味なヘヴィ・メタル。そして降霊会についての物語。我々の女王マリア・アウレアは霊と交信する能力を持っている。
だからそう、私たちと同じように海賊の世界に属していた古い魂と話をした降霊会での経験を、基本的に説明しているんだ。
Q7: In the past, pirates had an aspect of rebellion as they fought against the merchant ships of wealthy aristocrats for survival and for their friends. In recent years, on the other hand, all we have seen are wars that hurt and oppress the weak with violence. How do you, pirates, see the wars of recent years?
【VICTORIA】: Nowadays, the piracy world in Lyxion for example has changed, and we think that war should definitely never be the answer to any disagreement. We may be pirates, and you know what they say about us about what we do to survive, but we sincerely believe wars must be avoided. In any case, I think my bandmate and friend Destiny Grieflord would answer this question quite better.
Q7: かつての海賊は、裕福な貴族の商船を相手に、生き残るため、仲間のために戦った反抗的な側面を持っていましたね。一方、近年の世界は暴力で弱者を傷つけ、虐げる戦争ばかりが目につきます。海賊の皆さんは、近年の戦争をどう見ていますか？
【VICTORIA】: 今、例えばリクシオンの海賊の世界も変わってきていて、意見の食い違いがあっても絶対に暴力や戦争が解決策になってはいけないと思っているのよ。
我々は海賊で、我々が生き残るために何をしてきたかについて、いろいろと言われることは知っているの。でも、今は戦争は避けなければならないと心から信じている。いずれにせよ、私のバンドメイトであり友人でもある Destiny Grieflord なら、この質問にもっとうまく答えてくれると思う。
Q8: Each member wears a unique costume, such as an axe-shaped guitar or a crown, do you have a role or position for each of them?
【VICTORIA】: Yes! Each of us has a different role in our beautiful ship Santa Lucia. For example, our Majesty is the fleet Admiral, she is a descendant of the first Pirate Queen. Also Destiny Grieflord is the captain, Luna Lyss is vice admiral, Raindrop is commander and about me, I’m an admiral.
Q8: メンバーそれぞれが斧の形をしたまさに “アックス・ギター” や王冠などユニークな衣装を着ていますが、それぞれに役割やポジションがあるのですか？
【VICTORIA】: そうね！私たちの美しい船サンタ・ルチアでは、それぞれが異なる役割をもっている。例えば、私たちの女王は艦隊の提督で、初代海賊女王の子孫。また、Destiny Grieflord は船長、Luna Lyss は副提督、Raindrop は司令官、そして私は海軍大将なの。
