Review in Japanese>>> ここ数年オーストラリアのプログ/オルタナ/ポストロックシーンは素晴らしいと言い続けてきたが中でもこの作品は別格中の別格だ。PANIC!AT THE DISCOとQUEENに影響を受けてバンドを始めたというTOEHIDER。確かにPATDやQUEENの音楽的奔放さや高いポップセンスを有しているのは間違いない。ただそれに加えて彼らにしかない”何か”がある。この”何か”はシーンに衝撃を与えるだろう。
とにかく傑出しているのがフロントマンでギター/ボーカル、マイク・ミルズの才能だ。ケイト・ブッシュの”嵐が丘”をカバーした動画があれよあれよと３００００ヴューを超えた事からも分かるように２０００年以降のロックボーカリストの中でもベストの一人だと断言できる。THE DARKNESSのようなフニャチン紛い物野郎では決してない（ごめんなさい好きです）。フレディー・マーキュリーは勿論、ケイト・ブッシュの繊細さやブルース・デッキンソンの力強さに加えてサージ・タンキアンのような奔放さも併せ持つ。
マイクのボーカルを活かす楽曲群もオーサムの一言。アルバムを通してにQUEENっぽさは貫かれているんだけどわりと中期～後期の雰囲気も存在していて興味深い。ブライアンのような温もりのあるギタートーンとオーバーダブも要所で使用される。それに加えてプログライクな複雑なリックと不可思議な展開も存分に用意されている。時折挿入される現代的でヘヴィーな要素もDEVIN TOWNSENDやSOADのようで効果的だ。物悲しい民族音楽的旋律も彼ら譲りか。女性ベーシストのコーラスも効いている。
”僕はなんて怪物なんだ”。そうアルバムタイトル通り君達は怪物です。キャッチーさも変態さも全てがマーベルコミックス級。全てのロックファンに捧ぐ傑作。
Review in English>>> The past few years,Australian Prog/Alternative/Post-rock scene has made rapid progress. But this work of art is an exceptional. TOEHIDER started the band inspired by QUEEN and PANIC! AT THE DISCO. That’s for sure. TOEHIDER have an aspects of their musical diverseness and POP sence. But that’s not enough. TOEHIDER has “SOMETHING” of their own. This “SOMETHING” definitely impact on the music scene.
Mike Mills(Lead Vocal/Guitar of the band) is so talented man. Mills’ video of himself singing Kate Bush’s ‘Wuthering Heights’ has racked up over 300,000 views in a matter of days. That’s for sure. Actually,he is outstanding!! He is definitely one of the best singer from 2000. Freddy Mercury? Yes,off course. In addition to Freddy,his voice has a feeling of Kate Bush’s noble beauty and Bruce Dickinson’s strongness. And sometimes,he becomes even Serji Tankian.
And songs is well written. Through this album,There is a mood of QUEEN. Worthy of special mention,they have a mood of middle-latter QUEEN as well as the first period. I love their warm and overdubbing guitar tone like Brian May. In addtion to this,they use many complicated licks and mysterious developments like prog-rock. Amazingly,they also have an aspect of modern, heavy Rock/Metal like Devin Townsend or SYSTEM OF A DAWN.
”What Kind of Creature Am I ?” That’s true. You’re monsters in Marvel Comics. Masterpiece for all rock fans.
