張本人には見えないことが、世界には多々あります。例えば、夏休みの宿題に手をつけていない、危険な男にひっかかる、タバコや酒をやめられない。周りから見ればヤバよりのヤバなのに、当の本人には危機感がまったくなくあっけらかんとしている。今の地球はもしかしたら、そんな状況なのかもしれませんね。
だからこそ、宇宙の音楽と地球の “プログレッシブ・レイヴ” で悲しみを癒しにやってきた地球外生命体 HENGE には、この星の危機的状況がよく見えています。

INTERVIEW WITH ZPOR
Q1: I understand you are from another planet and have come to Earth? There are rumours that you came to Earth because of problems on your planet, but what happened to you? Also, why did you choose Earth, UK, Manchester?
【ZPOR】: Greetings human. Thanks for introducing me to the readers of Marunouchi Muzik Magazine. My name is Zpor. I come from the planet Agricular in Cosmos Redshift 7. This distant planet no longer exists. It was consumed as its parent star expanded and died. This was a natural celestial event, and will happen to all stars and their planets in the universe. Do not worry though… Earth has another 5 billion years before it will be consumed by your Sun.
My people – the Agriculans – are a cooperative species. Long before the death of our star, we found a way to work together and spread out into space, setting up many Agriculan colonies on planets in neighbouring star systems.
This was billions of years ago, long before I had encountered the creatures Nom (from the Sirius Star System) and Goo (from Venus in your own Solar System) with whom I landed on Earth 8 years ago…
Why did we land on Earth? Well, we had received distress signals from this planet. It was apparent that seriousness levels were reaching a dangerous peak, and an epidemic of sadness was spreading amongst the inhabitants of Earth. We made contact with a human, known to us now as Grok. He guided us to a safe landing on your dangerous, militarised planet.
Manchester, UK seemed like a good place to begin our mission… We were aware of the recent social/musical movement called ‘rave’ which had its epicentre in this city. Rave music has been known to unite people from different social backgrounds, so we thought that we would start there.

【ZPOR】: 人類の皆さん、こんにちは。Marunouchi Muzik Magazine の読者に紹介してくれてありがとう。僕の名前は Zpor。コスモス・レッドシフト7の惑星アグリキュラーから来たよ。この遠い惑星はもう存在しない。親星が膨張し、死滅したことで消滅してしまったんだ。これは天体の自然現象であり、宇宙のすべての星と惑星に起こることだ。だけど君たちは心配はいらないよ。地球が太陽に飲み込まれるまで、あと50億年もあるからね。
僕の種族、アグリキュランは協力的な種族だ。僕らの星が滅びるずっと前に、他の種族と協力する方法を見つけ、宇宙に広がり、近隣の星系の惑星に多くのアグリキュランのコロニーを築いたんだ。

Q2: Why did you decide to start a band after you arrived on Earth?
【ZPOR】: As you might know, sound can be a potent force. In fact, our spaceship Mushroom One is powered by sound. Therefore Nom, Goo and I have always played music as part of our daily routine as we navigate the depths of space. Since landing on Earth we now have a human who can help us to adapt our alien frequencies for human ears; together we aim to create benevolent sonic weaponry to combat sadness and bring joy to humanity.
Q2: なぜ地球に来て、バンドを始めようと思ったのですか？

Q3: The band name Henge seems like a 変化 (transformation) of Japanese, but why did you choose this name?
【ZPOR】: When we came to Earth we landed at an ancient Neolithic site in England called Stonehenge. This place was used by ancient humans as an observatory where stones were erected in order to measure Earth’s interaction with the sun. The Japanese meaning 変化 is very appropriate. Meeting Grok at this ‘henge’ was a transformative experience for all of us. It sparked a positive mutation in our music… a milestone in the evolution of our mission.
Q3: Henge というバンド名は日本語の変化（変形）のようにも思えますが？
【ZPOR】: 僕たちが地球に来たとき、ストーンヘンジと呼ばれるイギリスの新石器時代の古代遺跡に降り立ったんだ。ここは古代人が太陽と地球の相互作用を測定するために石を立て、天文台として使っていた場所だ。日本語の “変化” という意味はだからこそとても適切だ。この “ヘンジ” でのグロックとの出会いは、僕たち全員にとって変容的な体験だったからね。そしてそれは、僕たちの音楽にポジティブな突然変異を引き起こした……ストーンヘンジは僕たちの使命の進化におけるマイルストーンだ 。
Q4: You also publish comic books. And your music also has an 8-bit, game music feel to it. Are you attracted to the culture of Earth, Japanese anime, and video games?
【ZPOR】: Yes, we are great admirers of your culture. Humans are a very creative species. Since landing here we have embraced the human artistic format of ‘comic books’. It is an excellent way for us to communicate our history to your species.
Q4: HENGE はコミック・ブックも出版していますね。また、あなたの音楽には8ビットやゲーム音楽のような雰囲気があります。日本のアニメやビデオゲームの文化に惹かれているのですか？
【ZPOR】: そうだね、僕たちは君たちの文化をとても尊敬しているんだ。人間はとてもクリエイティブな種だ。ここに着陸して以来、僕たちは “コミック・ブック” という人間の芸術形式を抱きしめてきた。それにコミックは、僕たちの歴史を君たちの種族に伝える優れた方法にもなる。
Q5: It seems that your live performances are performed exactly as the aliens look, but did you ever think about mimicking humans? If you continue as you are now, won’t you be hunted by NASA and the CIA?
【ZPOR】: We are hiding in plain sight. So far, none of these organisations have noticed that we are here. Given that we are peaceful, music loving creatures we have been able to avoid any negative attention from the military and due to having a very effective cloaking device on our spaceship, we are able to pass through Earth’s borders undetected.
Q5: あなたのライブ・パフォーマンスは、エイリアンの外見のままで行われているようですが、人の姿を模倣したり、カモフラージュすることは考えなかったのですか？今のままではNASAやCIAに追われるのでは？
【ZPOR】: 僕たちはありふれた風景に潜んでいるんだ。だから今のところ、どの組織も僕たちがここにいることに気づいていない。僕たちが平和的で音楽を愛する生き物であるからこそ、軍からのネガティブな注目を避けることができたというのもあるね。それに僕らの宇宙船には非常に効果的な遮蔽装置があるから、地球の国境を発見されずに通過することができるんだ。
Q6: Your music is very progressive, but also has danceable elements, like a rave! It’s wonderful! Are these two things that particularly attracted you to Earth music? Did you use music from your home planet?
【ZPOR】: Our sound is an interplanetary hybrid. It has its roots in the traditional music of my home planet; a sacred sonic artform which we call ‘Cosmic Dross’. In Agriculan culture, music was not separated from the rest of daily life as it is on other worlds. From birth we were swaddled in the 23 notes of the Agriculan mode and this music was like food to our babies.
When I met Nom on his home planet of Xylanthia in the Sirius Star System, we shared a sacred plasma which caused us to fall into a musical trance that lasted for 10 days. Nom is a wise amphibious creature of the genus Nommo. These creatures are naturally good drummers on account of their dexterous tentacles. During our shared trance, Nom’s amphibious rhythms caused a mutation in ‘Cosmic Dross’ and a new strain of this genre was born…
Later, Nom and I visited your neighbouring planet Venus. As you may be aware, Venus has a toxic atmosphere and can not support life. But this was not always the case. Long ago many lifeforms thrived on Venus – the Venusians. These creatures were barbaric in their treatment of each other and their environment. When we arrived the planet was on the brink of a climate apocalypse. We managed to save one specimen – Brother Goo. Once aboard our ship, we carried out a series of socialisation experiments on the Venusian. We found that he responded particularly well to bass frequencies, eventually these violent bass sounds made their way into our music.
Since we landed on Earth 8 years ago, we have been collaborating with the human Grok. He is very adept at manipulating synthesisers and has infused our alien music with the sounds of rave, making powerful hooks that compel humans to dance!

アグリキュランの文化では、音楽は他の世界のように日常生活から切り離されてはいなかった。僕たちは生まれたときからアグリキュランのモードである23音に浸っていて、この音楽は私たちの赤ん坊にとって食べ物のようなものだったからね。
シリウス星系のキシランティア星でノムに会ったとき、僕たちは神聖なプラズマを共有し、10日間も音楽のトランス状態に陥った。ノムはノモ属の賢い水陸両用生物だ。この生物は、その器用な触手のおかげで、生まれつき優れたドラマーである。僕たちがトランス状態を共有している間、ノムの水陸両用のリズムは “コズミック・ドロス” に突然変異を起こし、このジャンルの新しい系統が生まれた…。
その後、ノムと僕はお隣の金星を訪れた。皆が知るように、金星は有害な大気を持ち、生命を維持することはできない。だけど、昔はそうではなかったんだ。はるか昔、金星には多くの生命体が繁栄していた。だけど金星の生物は、互いや環境を野蛮に扱っていたんだ。だから僕たちが到着したとき、惑星は気候の黙示録に瀕していた。そこで僕たちはなんとか1匹の標本、ブラザー・グーを救った。船に戻ると、僕らはその金星人に対して一連の社会化実験を行った。彼は特に低音域によく反応することがわかり、やがてこの暴力的な低音は僕らの音楽にも取り入れられるようになった。
8年前に地球に着陸して以来、僕たちは人間のグロックと協力してきた。彼はシンセサイザーの操作に非常に長けており、エイリアン・ミュージックにレイヴ・サウンドを吹き込み、人間を踊らせる強力なフックを作っているんだ！
Q7: Can you tell us about the themes and lyrics you sing about in “Alpha Test 4,” do you use space words like Magma’s Kobaia language?
【ZPOR】: We cover many delightful subjects in our latest LP ‘Alpha Test 4’. We have songs about DNA, microscopic tardigrades, lonely asteroids, a self repairing robot… There is a song which has a rap containing 17 different Earth languages.
On our first EP there is a song written in the Venusian language which tells of the apocalypse on that planet.
Q7: “Alpha Test 4” のテーマや歌詞について教えてください。MAGMA のコバイア語のような宇宙語は使っているのですか？
【ZPOR】: 最新LP “Alpha Test 4” では、たくさんの楽しいテーマを取り上げている。DNA、微小なクマムシ、孤独な小惑星、自己修復ロボット…17の地球の言葉をラップにした曲もある。
最初のEPには金星語で書かれた曲があって、その曲では金星の黙示録を歌っているよ。
Q8: As we enter the 2020s, the world is under a dark cloud of war, pandemics, and division. As an alien, how do you feel about the current situation on Earth? Can music change the world?
【ZPOR】: It is clear that humanity is at a critical point in its history. Now, more than ever, it is vital that sounds of love and joy are amplified lest you surrender to the forces of division and hate. Humanity must unite to save your species before it is too late. There is still hope… but you all must engage in this mission. Your future is in your hands.
Q8: 2020年代に入り、世界は戦争、パンデミック、分断の暗雲に包まれています。宇宙人として、あなたは地球の現状をどう感じますか？音楽は世界を変えることができるでしょうか？
