「僕が日本の音楽に惹かれたのは、メロディーなんだ。日本のメタル・バンドは、曲の中を走る赤い線のように、常にメロディーに焦点を当てていると感じるよ。これは、僕自身の音楽においても非常に重要なことなんだ」
才能溢れる多くのバンドを抱えながら、さながら鎖国のように世界への輸出を拒んできた日本の音楽世界。イメージや言語、そして理解されない珠玉メロディーなどその理由はさまざまでしたが、近年はそんな負の連鎖から解き放たれつつあります。アニメやゲームといった日本のコンテンツが抱擁されるにつれて、永久凍土に見えた音の壁が緩やかに溶け始めたのかもしれません。そして、フィンランドの THY ROW は衝撃のデビュー・アルバム “Unchained” において、日本の音楽が持つクリエイティブな可能性とその影響を惜しみなく解放しています。
「歌を録音することはとても負担が大きく、感情的なプロセスで、歌い終えた後はいつも疲れてしまう。でも、もし誰かの心をどこかに動かし、その曲の意味やストーリーを感じてもらうことができたら、ボーカリストとしての目標は達成できたと思うんだよ」
枚方に一年間留学し、日本語や日本文化、そして感情の機微を胸いっぱいに吸い込んだボーカリスト Mikael Salo は、THY ROW の音楽へと日本の空気を思い切り吐き出しました。
坂本英三、森川之雄。こぶしの効いた浪花節を思わせる、すべてが熱く “Too Much” な二人の歌声は Mikael の心を動かし、憑依し、アルバムに感情の津波を引き起こすことになりました。おそらくは、ANTHEM がこれまで世界にあまり受けいれられなかったのも二人の歌唱が、メロディーが、きっとあまりに “日本的” だったからで、その部分が雪解けとなった20年代では、Mika のようなユーロと日本のハイブリッドの登場もある意味では当然でしょう。ANTHEM は何十年も、ただ最高のメタルを作り続けているのですから。
「”Burn My Heart” や “Destiny” は完璧なパワー・メタルだけど、”Still Loving You” や “Destinations”のような曲は、彼らのスタイルの多様性を示していて、息を呑むような音楽性によってパワー・メタルの曲作りのルールを曲げているよね。驚きだよ！」
THY ROW に影響を与えた日本の音楽は ANTHEM だけではありません。GALNERYUS や X JAPAN の “パワー・メタル” の枠だけには収まらない千変万化の作曲術も、THY ROW にとって不可欠な養音となりました。そうして彼らは、ロックとメタルの境界線の間でバランスを取りながら、メロディーに重点を置き、時折ラジカルなギターソロとマジカルな展開を交え、ビッグなコーラスによって感染力の高い楽曲を完成させてきたのです。
「制作面では、ミキシング・エンジニアの Jussi Kraft（Starkraft Studio）と一緒に、AVENGED SEVENFOLD のアルバム “Hail To The King” を参考にしたんだよね。音楽的には、モダンな影響ならブラジルのバンド ALMAH や、アメリカのバンド ADRENALINE MOB みたいなバンドが思い浮かぶね」
重要なのは、彼らが過去の亡霊に囚われてはいないこと。手数の多いドラムの騒然は MASTODON の嗎に似て、耳を惹くオルタナティブなフレーズは INCUBUS の異端にも似て、クランチーなリフワークとサウンドは QOTSA のエナジーにも似て、THY ROW の音楽を80年代と20年代の狭間に力強く漂わせるのです。冒頭、”Road Goes On” や “The Round” といった真のアンセムを誇示する一方で、アルツハイマーをテーマとしたダークでプログレッシブな “The Downfall” 三部作でアルバムを閉める構成力も素晴らしいですね。

INTERVIEW WITH MIKAEL SALO
Q1: You were studying in Japan for a short time, right? What kind of place did you study and what did you learn?
【MIKAEL】: Correct! I studied at Kansai Gaidai University (関西外国語大学) in Hirakata-shi (枚方市) back in 2016 for one year. Most of my Japanese language skills are a result from that time. Living there, working part-time as a Finnish/English language teacher and going to my university’s courses really helped me out to grasp the language and get accustomed to the culture!
Q1: あなたはかつて日本に留学していたそうですね？
【MIKAEL】: そうなんだよ！僕は2016年に枚方市にある関西外国語大学に1年間留学していたんだ。僕の日本語能力のほとんどは、その時の成果だよ。枚方市に住み、フィンランド語と英語の教師としてアルバイトをし、大学の講座に参加することで、言葉を理解し日本文化に慣れることができたんだよね。
Q2: Could you talk about some of the Japanese anime, manga, music, and video games that have particularly influenced you?
【MIKAEL】: Despite what some of my followers in social media might think, I am actually not a HUGE fan of manga or anime, but I do enjoy it from time to time. There are certain shows and series like ”Detroit Metal City” (デトロイト・メタル・シティ), ”How Heavy Are The Dumbbells You Lift?” (ダンベル何キロ持てる？) and ”Berserk” (ベルセルク) to name a few that I absolutely love, but what really made me fall in love with Japan are the people and the culture in general (more of that in my reply to the next question).
I absolutely LOVE the Yakuza (龍が如く) game series, which I am playing chronologically at the moment, currently Yakuza 4 (龍が如く4 伝説を継ぐもの). I am a huge fan of Japanese metal music, in particular Anthem (アンセム), BabyMetal (ベビーメタル), Galneryus (ガルネリウス) and X Japan (エックス・ジャパン). I have met members from 3 of those bands: Syu (シュウ) and Yuhki from Galneryus at Loudpark 2016, their ex-singer Yama-B (山口将宏) at his Gunbridge show in Osaka also in 2016, the KamiBand (神バンド) of BabyMetal at their Helsinki show in 2020, and the legendary Yoshiki of X Japan when he visited Finland in 2017 to promote his movie ”We Are X” (ウィーアーエックス). Needless to say, those are some of most amazing moments of my life so far! Though I REALLY need to see Anthem live one day, they might be my favorite Japanese band!
Q2: アニメや漫画、ゲーム、音楽といった日本の文化がお好きなんですか？
【MIKAEL】: SNS のフォロワーの中には、そう思う人もいるだろうけど、僕は実は、マンガやアニメの大ファンではないんだよね。”デトロイト・メタル・シティ”、”ダンベル何キロ持てる？”、”ベルセルク” のようなアニメは大好きなんだけど。だけど、僕が日本を好きになるきっかけとなったのは、日本の人々と文化でまちがいないよ。
ゲームだと “龍が如く” シリーズが大好きで最初からやっているんだけど、今は “龍が如く4 伝説を継ぐ者” をプレイしているんだ。
僕は日本のメタルの大ファンで、特に ANTHEM, BABYMETAL, GALNERYUS, X JAPAN が好きなんだ。そのうちの3つのバンドのメンバーには会ったことがあるよ。GALNERYUS の Syu と Yuhki は2016年の Loudpark で、元ボーカルの Yama-B（山口将宏）は同じく2016年に大阪で行われた GUNBRIDGE のライブで会っている。
2020年には BABYMETAL の 神バンドがヘルシンキ公演を行い、2017年には X JAPAN のレジェンド Yoshiki が映画 “We Are X” のプロモーションでフィンランドを訪れたからね。言うまでもなく、この二つの出来事は、僕のこれまでの人生の中で最も素晴らしい瞬間だったよ！ANTHEM のライブをいつか見なければならないね。彼らは僕が一番好きな日本のバンドかもしれないから。
Q3: What was your first encounter with Japan? I have the impression that about a third of the population of Finland loves metal, haha, but which came first, your encounter with metal or your encounter with Japan?
【MIKAEL】: My encounter with metal music was first. We were sailing the Baltic Sea with my family back in 2005, and my big brother had recently become a huge Iron Maiden fan. He had a CD player with headphones as well as the Rock In Rio (2002) live album. I vividly remember having dinner and the topic of heavy metal came up. I was a dumb teenager at the time, and asked quite rudely from by brother: ”Isn’t heavy metal for people who use drugs and have tattoos?”, to which my wise big brother replied: ”Not at all actually, it is beautiful and passionate music, and you should check it out! 😉” A day later I tried it out, I put the CD in, not knowing what to expect and as soon as the intro (Arthur’s Farewell) started, I was in a trance… The Wicker Man was so powerful and I must have listened to that album on that trip for a hundred times! It is still the most important album of my career. So thank your Markus, you sparked my lifelong passion with introducing that album to me that summer! 🙏❤️
My first encounter with Japanese culture was when my dad, who used to travel to Japan on ship software business trips quite often, took me to eat sushi together. He taught me to use chopsticks, and I instantly fell in love with the food! I must’ve been something like 6-7 years old. Meeting Japanese people for the first time came a lot later, in 2013 when I was doing my military service, which is mandatory in Finland, at the Guard’s Conscript Band as a singer. We were playing a show at a Finnish kindergarten, and a bunch of Japanese university researchers came to see the gig. We played a lot of children’s music and some popular Finnish pop songs, as well as doing some games with the kids from the stage. I was enchanted by the manners of the researchers, and how they treated us in their interview with such respect, conducting their work with great elegance. I was deeply impressed by that experience, and started learning the language the following winter. That was when I discovered Japanese music as well, and my love for the country was finally kindled!
Q3: 日本文化との最初の出会いは何でしたか？
フィンランドは人口の三分の一がメタルを愛しているようなイメージですが、メタルと日本ではどちらが先に好きになったのでしょう？
【MIKAEL】: メタルの方が先だったね。2005年に家族でバルト海を旅行していたとき、兄が IRON MAIDEN のファンになったばかりだったんだ。彼はヘッドフォン付きのCDプレーヤーと “Rock In Rio”（2002年）のライブアルバムを持ってきていた。夕食のとき、メタルの話題になったことを鮮明に覚えているよ。
当時、間抜けなティーン・エイジャーだった僕は、兄にかなり失礼な質問をしてしまったんだよね。”ヘヴィ・メタルって、ドラッグをやったり、タトゥーを入れたりしている人たちのものじゃないの？”って。でも賢明な兄はこう答えたんだ。”そんなことはないよ、美しくて情熱的な音楽だから、ぜひチェックしてみて！😉”
一日後、僕はメタルを試してみた。何も知らずにCDを入れ、イントロ（Arthur’s Farewell）が始まった瞬間、僕はトランス状態に陥った…”The Wicker Man” はとてもパワフルで、旅行中、あのアルバムを100回は聴いたはずだよ。今でも僕のキャリアの中で最も重要なアルバムだね。あの夏、兄が僕にあのアルバムを紹介してくれたことで、生涯の情熱に火がついたんだ。マーカスに感謝するよ 🙏❤️
僕が初めて日本の文化に触れたのは、ソフトウェア・ビジネスの出張でよく日本に行っていた父が、一緒にお寿司を食べに連れて行ってくれた時だったな。お箸の使い方を教えてくれて、すぐにお寿司が好きになったよ。6～7歳の頃だったと思う。
日本人に初めて会ったのはもっと後のことで、2013年にフィンランドでは義務づけられている兵役に就いていて、衛兵バンドで歌手として活動していた時かな。フィンランドの幼稚園でライブをしていたら、日本の大学の研究者たちが見に来てくれたんだ。子供向けの音楽やフィンランドの人気ポップスをたくさん演奏し、ステージから子供たちと一緒にゲームをしたりもした。僕は、その研究者たちのマナーに魅了されたよ。彼らは僕たちに敬意を持って接し、とても優雅に仕事をしていたからね。この経験に感銘を受けた僕は、翌年の冬から日本語を学び始めたんだ。その時、日本の音楽にも出会い、日本への愛が芽生えたんだよ。
Q4: “Unchained” artwork also evokes images of Japanese anime and yokai, doesn’t it? Is it linked to the theme and lyrics of the album?
【MIKAEL】: The artist Tony Kaikkonen is a famous tattoo artist here in Finland, and we did ask to him to have a Japanese mask-kind-of influence in the picture so you have a good point! The artwork has a theme of being ”unchained” with our emotions, taking away the ego and the false image we might portray in society very often to not stick out. The album is all about 本音 and not 建て前, in that we speak about our raw emotions and real experiences in life without trying to make them look ”cool” or ”rock ’n’ roll” by pretense.
This is a funny question actually, since the Finnish saying ”joo kai” (which is pronounced the same way as yokai in Japanese), means 多分そうです！So the Finnish pronunciation of that Japanese word could be my reply to the question haha We actually might make the character our mascot now and call him joo kai/yokai, so thanks for the great idea! ; ).
Q4: “Unchained” のアートワークを見て、日本の妖怪を思い出しましたよ。アルバムのテーマにも関係がありそうですね？
【MIKAEL】: アートワークを手がけた Tony Kaikkonen はフィンランドで有名なタトゥー・アーティストなんだ。日本の仮面に影響を受けた絵にしてほしいとお願いしたんだよ。このアートワークは、自分の感情を “解き放つ” というテーマを持っていて、エゴや社会でよく見せるための偽りのイメージを取り払って、本来の自分を解き放つこと。このアルバムは、”建て前” ではなく “本音” をテーマにしている。つまり、僕たちの生の感情や人生における実際の経験を、”クール” や “ロックンロール” のように見せかけようとせずに語っているんだよね。
というのも、面白いことにフィンランド語の “joo kai” （日本語の “妖怪” と同じ発音）という言葉の意味は、”多分そうです！” なんだよね。だから、このフィンランド語の発音の日本語が、この質問に対する私の答えになるかもしれないね (笑) 。実際に、このキャラクターを私たちのマスコットにして、joo kai/yokaiと呼ぼうかと思っているくらいでね。素晴らしいアイデアをありがとう！(笑)
Q5: Your singing is amazing, by the way! You have the overwhelming charm of Ronnie James Dio, Klaus Meine and Freddie Mercury combined, would you agree? haha! What kind of vocalists have influenced you? And what kind of vocalist do you aspire to be?
【MIKAEL】: First of all, thank you so much for your kind words! Being compared to such legendary singers is a true honor… 🙏❤️ Ronnie James Dio and Freddie Mercury are definitely two extremely important singers, frontmen and composers for me, and many people have said that my timbre (color of voice) is very similar to Klaus Meine’s, so I think your picks were very fitting – even though I would never compare myself to such talent! Haha
On top of the beforementioned vocalists, some of my biggest heroes are André Matos (may he rest in peace), Bruce Dickinson, Edu Falaschi, Eizo Sakamoto (坂本英三), Eric Adams, Hansi Kürsch, Russell Allen and Yukio Morikawa (森川之雄).
I aspire to be a vocalist that can take the listener to a journey, transforming them to another time and place with the songs I sing. Some people have called me an ”emotional singer”, and I am extremely happy of this tagline actually! I definitely find recording a song an extremely taxing and emotional process, and I am always exhausted after finishing a song. But if I am able to move someone somewhere and make them feel the meaning or the story of the song, then I think I have achieved my goal as a vocalist!
Q5: それにしてもあなたの声は素晴らしいですね！Ronnie James Dio と Klaus Meine と Freddie Mercury をミックスしたような魅力がありますね？
【MIKAEL】: まず最初に、嬉しい言葉を本当にありがとう！彼らのようなレジェンドと比較されるなんて本当に光栄だよ…Ronnie と Freddie は、僕にとって非常に重要なシンガーであり、フロントマンであり、コンポーザーでもあるね。また、多くの人が、私の音色（声色）が Klaus に非常に似ていると言ってくれているんだ (笑)。
彼らに加えて、僕の最大のヒーローは、 André Matos (安らかに), Bruce Dickinson, Edu Falaschi, Eizo Sakamoto (坂本英三), Eric Adams, Hansi Kürsch, Russell Allen and Yukio Morikawa (森川之雄) といった人たちだね。

Q6: At Suomi Fest and elsewhere, many people were surprised at how good your Japanese was. Why did you decide to cover X Japan’s “Blue Blood” in Japanese? Are there any Japanese artists you would like to sing for, for example, in the visual-kei, metal, or other genres?
【MIKAEL】: Thank you! I am definitely still a 学生 and not ペラペラ 笑。 We were preparing our setlist for Suomi Feast 2019, and we were so happy to have been picked to the line-up of the festival, that we decided that we had to do something special for the audience! Now X Japan is the biggest band in Japanese rock history, so covering them was a no-brainer, especially since I really love the band! Blue Blood is a song that fits the Thy Row style, and the topic is also very fitting to the topics we like to write about. I would definitely like to incorporate even more X Japan influence in our songwriting in the future!
Oh definitely! I would really like to cover Anthem and Loudness with Thy Row, and who knows maybe even some more X Japan one day! Oh, and my guilty pleasure from the visual kei scene is the band Versailles (ヴェルサイユ), which I actually saw live in Finland in 2017 with my friends, that show was amazing!
Q6: Suomi Fest では多くの人があなたの日本語の上手さに驚いたそうですね。今回のアルバムでも、日本盤のボーナス・トラックに X JAPAN の “Blue Blood” が収録されています。
【MIKAEL】: ありがとう！でも僕は間違いなくまだ学生で、全然ペラペラじゃないよ！(笑)。
あの時は、Suomi Feast 2019のセットリストを準備していたんだけど、フェスティバルのラインナップに選ばれてとても嬉しかったから、観客のために何か特別なことをしなければならないと考えたんだ。今や X Japan は日本のロック史上最大のバンドだから彼らをカバーするのは当然で、特に僕は X JAPAN が本当に大好きだからね！”Blue Blood” は、THY ROW のスタイルに合った曲で、テーマも僕たちが書きたいと思っていることにぴったりだった。今後は、X JAPAN の影響をもっと曲作りに取り入れていきたいね！
あとは、ANTHEM や LOUDNESS をカバーしてみたいし、いつか X JAPAN の曲ももっとカバーしてみたいね！それと、ビジュアル系では VERSAILLES をカバーしてみたいね。2017年にフィンランドで友人と一緒にライブを見たんだけど、あのライブは最高だったからね。
Q7: Thy Row is a really great mix of classic rock with riffs and sounds built in a modern way! There are moments that remind me of bands like Incubus, QOTSA, Mastodon, but who are your recent modern bands influences?
【MIKAEL】: Thank you again for the nice words! 🙏 It is really cool actually that those bands came into your mind : ) From a production point of view, Avenged Sevenfold’s Hail To The King album was a mixing reference we used with our mixing engineer Jussi Kraft (Starkraft Studio). Musically some modern bands that come to mind would be the Brazilian band Almah and the American band Adrenaline Mob, at least for myself! A modern band that Jussi Laulainen (our guitar player and one of the principal songwriters) loves is the Australian band Airbourne. Our producer Sami Inkiläinen meanwhile loves the American band Greta Van Fleet!
Q7: THY ROW の音楽には、クラシック・ロックをモダンに再構築したような感覚がありますね。時々、INCUBUS, QOTSA, MASTODON といったバンドを想起しましたよ。
【MIKAEL】: ありがとう！彼らが君の頭の中に浮かんだというのは、実にクールなことだよ！

メイン・コンポーザーでギタリストの Jussi Laulainen が好きなモダン・バンドは、オーストラリアのバンド、AIRBOURNE だ。一方、プロデューサーの Sami Inkiläinenは、アメリカのバンド、GRETA VAN FLEET が大好きだね。
Q8: From your point of view, as a person who is familiar with both Japanese and world music, what are the differences between the two?
【MIKAEL】: The obvious first answer would be the use of Japanese folk instruments, such as the koto (箏) and the shamisen (三味線). I actually took a course in koto playing at Kansai Gaidai University, and loved it so much! I still have my koto picks at my memory box stored away. The Finnish ”samurai metal” band Whispered also utilizes these instruments, and I can highly recommend them to all Japanese metal fans, since they are really amazing! From Japanese metal bands that use their traditional instruments I would definitely recommend Gyze!
Secondly, what always drew me into Japanese music was the melodies – I feel that Japanese metal bands always keep the focus on the melody, like a redline running through the song. This is extremely important to me also in my own music. The use of rhythm is also more varied than with European metal bands in my opinion. For example Galneryus can have a quite conservative metal song such as ”Shriek Of The Vengeance”, but on the other they can go all out creative with songs such as ”Still Loving You”, which has an amazing shuffle like beat throughout the song. I appreciate creativity and musicianship like this so much!
Q8: 日本の音楽にも、世界の音楽にも精通しているあなたにとって、その両者の違いはどのあたりにあるのでしょう？
【MIKAEL】: まず最初に思いつくのは、琴や三味線などの日本の民族楽器だよね。僕は関西外国語大学で箏の授業を受けたことがあるんだけど、とても気に入ったよ。箏のピックは今でも思い出の箱にしまってある。フィンランドの “サムライ・メタル”バンド WHISPERED も日本の伝統楽器を使用しているんだけど、彼らは本当に素晴らしいから、日本のすべてのメタル・ファンに強くお勧めできるよ。伝統的な楽器を使用する日本のメタルバンドの中では、GYZE を絶対にお勧めするね！
次に、僕が日本の音楽に惹かれたのは、メロディーなんだ。日本のメタル・バンドは、曲の中を走る赤い線のように、常にメロディーに焦点を当てていると感じるよ。これは、僕自身の音楽においても非常に重要なことなんだ。リズムの使い方も、ヨーロッパのメタル・バンドよりも変化に富んでいると思う。例えば GALNERYUS は、”Shriek Of The Vengeance” のようなコンサバティブなメタル曲もあれば、”Still Loving You” のように、曲全体に素晴らしいシャッフルのようなビートがある曲では、全力でクリエイティブになっていく。僕はああいった創造性と音楽性をとても高く評価しているんだ。
FIVE ALBUMS THAT CHANGED MIKAEL’S LIFE
ANTHEM “BURNING OATH”
My favorite Japanese metal album, and my favorite Anthem album along with ”Absolute World”. Roy Z made the perfect mix for this record, and I think this is best vocal performance of Eizo Sakamoto’s career – my favorite Japanese singer, both his technical and emotional abilities are godlike! Songwriting on this album is top notch, I love the artwork, and I really wish to see these songs live one day 🙏
一番好きなジャパニーズ・メタルのアルバムで、ANTHEM のアルバムの中では “Absolute World” と並んで最も好きなアルバム。Roy Zはこのアルバムのために完璧なミックスを行なっているし、坂本英三のキャリアの中で最高のヴォーカルパフォーマンスだと思う。このアルバムのソングライティングは最高で、アートワークも大好きだよ。いつかライブで見てみたいね🙏。
BLIND GUARDIAN “IMAGINATIONS FROM THE OTHER SIDE”
I’ve learned more about vocal arrangement and composing melodies from Hansi Kürsch than any other singer. Blind Guardian might be my all time favorite band, since their songwriting is so playful and inspirational. André Olbrich has never denied his Brian May/Queen influence, and I do think both his guitar playing/tone and composing skills are completely unique and magical. This album was produced by the legendary Flemming Rasmussen (who did Master Of Puppets by Metallica just to name one album), and the songwriting is basically flawless. Nothing could be improved in this record!
Hansi Kürschからは、他のどのシンガーよりもボーカル・アレンジやメロディの作り方を学んだ。彼らの曲作りはとても遊び心があり、インスピレーションを与えてくれるから、最も好きなバンドかもしれないね。Andre Olbrich は、Brian May や QUEEN からの影響を否定していないけど、彼のギタープレイ/トーンと作曲のスキルは、完全にユニークで魔法のようだと思う。このアルバムは、伝説的な Flemming Rasmussen（METALLICA の “Master Of Puppets” を手がけた人物）によってプロデュースされており、曲作りは基本的に完璧。このアルバムで改善できることは何もないよ。
GALNERYUS “RESURRECTION”
I have seen Galneryus live 4 times: once in Kyoto 2014, two times in Osaka 2016 and once in Nagoya 2016. They must be the most talented players in a single band in the whole world, and seeing them live in those shows only enforced this image! I think this is their best work. After departing with Yama-B and Yu-To and introducing Masatoshi ”Sho” Ono (小野正利) and Taka, they had renewed energy which is shown beautifully on this album. Songs like ”Burn My Heart” and ”Destiny” are perfect power metal compositions, but then again songs like ”Still Loving You” and ”Destinations” show the variety in their style, and how amazingly they are able to bend the rules of songwriting in power metal by their breathtaking musicality!
GALNERYUS のライブは、2014年の京都で1回、2016年の大阪で2回、2016年の名古屋で1回の計4回見ている。彼らは全世界で最も才能のあるプレイヤーが一つのバンドに集まっているに違いなく、ライブで彼らを見てそのイメージがさらに強くなった! これは彼らの最高傑作だと思うよ。Yama-Bと Yu-To が去った後、小野 “Sho “正利と Taka が加わり、彼らは新たなエネルギーを得た。それがこのアルバムで見事に示されているね。”Burn My Heart” や “Destiny “は完璧なパワー・メタルだけど、”Still Loving You” や “Destinations”のような曲は、彼らのスタイルの多様性を示していて、息を呑むような音楽性によってパワー・メタルの曲作りのルールを曲げているよね。まったく驚かされるよ！
IRON MAIDEN “ROCK IN RIO”
The legendary live album that got me into heavy metal back in 2005. My big brother showed me this record, and I’ve never looked back ever since! Perfect live album production by Kevin Shirley, highlighting the space, the atmosphere with the sound of the crowd high in the mix, and a powerful explosive sound for the band. I think this is Maiden’s greatest live performance of all time, showing their best sides from all of their different phases and decades (80’s to 2000’s).
2005年に僕がメタルにハマるきっかけとなった伝説的なライブアルバム。私の兄がこのレコードを教えてくれて、それ以来一度も振り返ることはなかったね。Kevin Shirley による完璧なライブアルバムのプロダクションは、空間や雰囲気を強調し、観客の声を高い位置でミックスし、バンドのためのパワフルで爆発的なサウンドを実現している。80年代から2000年代までのメイデンの最高のライブパフォーマンスだと思うな。
SYMPHONY X “PARADISE LOST”
What can I say about Symphony X? An incredible progressive power metal band, with just the perfect amount of symphonic and neoclassical influences. Russell Allen is one of my all time favorite singers, and his charisma on stage is also unrivaled! Michael Romeo is also a guitar hero legend who needs no introduction. This album changed my life, with an amazing production, theme and flawless songwriting, I think this quality-wise is one of the most perfect metal albums ever created.
SYMPHONY Xについて何と言えばいいのだろう？シンフォニックとネオクラシックの影響を完璧に取り入れた、素晴らしいプログレッシブ・パワーメタル・バンド。Russell Allen はお気に入りのシンガーの一人で、ステージでの彼のカリスマ性も他の追随を許さない。Michael Romeo もまた、紹介するまでもないギターヒーローでレジェンドだね。このアルバムは僕の人生を変えたよ。素晴らしいプロダクション、テーマ、完璧なソングライティングで、品質的にはこれまでに作られた最も完璧なメタルアルバムの一つだと思うよ。
