SITHU AYE, PLINI, JAKUB ZYTECKI ARE NEXT THREE OF MODERN PROG / INSTRU-METAL GUITAR SCENE !! DO NOT MISS THIER FAV ALBUMS OF 2015 !!

2015年は MODERN PROG /INSTRU-METAL シーンにとって実りの多い年になりました。
POLYPHIA, CHON という期待の若手は本格的にブレイクを果たしましたし、弊誌で扱うことの出来た INTERVALS, POMEGRANATE TIGER, SCALE THE SUMMIT, JOHN BROWNE, YVETTE YOUNG, DAVID MAXIM MICIC といった新進気鋭のアーティストたちも素晴らしい作品をリリースしましたね。日本に話を移すと、界隈で今最も注目を集めるギタリスト PLINI が DISPERSE のヤングヒーロー JAKUBU ZYTECKI を伴って来日公演を果たし、最高の演奏を見せたことは一つの”事件”だったと思います。
そして 2016年。今年は我らが”先輩”、SITHU AYE の来日公演も決定しているのです！！勿論、PLINI にはデビューフルが、Jakub には DISPERSE の新作が控えています。
今回弊誌では、”MMM READER’S POLL 2015″ の一環として、彼ら”NEXT THREE”に 2015年のベストアルバムとメッセージをいただくことが出来ました。勿論、PROG-CHAN たちも SITHU 先輩の書き下ろしですよ。どうぞ！！

【SITHU AYE’S BEST ALBUMS 2015】

VEIL OF MAYA “MATRIARCH”

I’m going to be honest, I was never the biggest fan of Veil of Maya before Matriarch but something about this album really clicked with me. I think Veil of Maya found that balance between heavy and melodic, especially with Lucas as their new vocalist. And let’s be honest, Mikasa is an absolute belter of a tune.

正直言って、”Matriarch”以前は VEIL OF MAYA の大ファンだった訳じゃないんだけど、このアルバムの何かが本当にピンと来たんだよね。思うに、彼らはヘヴィネスとメロディーのバランスを見いだしたんじゃないかな。特に新ボーカルの Lucas はね。うん、”Mikasa”は心から素晴らしい楽曲だと思うよ。

TRICOT “A N D”

My brother introduced me to Tricot and having never heard anything that the Japanese math rock trio had to offer, I found myself pleasantly surprised by their combination of straight ahead pop-rock with more math elements. I can’t understand most of what they sing about, but the songs are great on this record!

弟が教えてくれるまで、日本の Math-Rock トリオ TRICOTについては何も知らなかったんだ。彼女たちの正統派 POP-ROCK と MATHY な要素のコンビネーションは嬉しい驚きだったね。何について歌っているのかはほとんど分からないんだけど、このレコードの楽曲は素晴らしいね！

AGENT FRESCO “DESTRIER”

Agent Fresco were another band that were new to my radar and I got my first real experience of them at Tech-Fest, which made me fall in love with them ever more. Emotionally charged and powerful, Agent Fresco are one of those bands that can make you incredibly happy and sad at the same time, and Destrier is no exception.

AGENT FRESCO も僕のレーダーに新しくかかったバンドなんだ。Tech-Fest で見たのが初体験だったんだけど、本当に大好きになったね。パワフルでエモーションに満ちている。AGENT FRESCO は驚異的な幸せと悲しみを同時に感じさせてくれるバンドの一つだよ。 “Destrier”も例外じゃなくね。

FIGHTSTAR “BEHIND THE DEVIL’S BACK”

Fightstar were a band I actually listened to in high school and university before they completely seemed to drop off of the radar. I heard about their new release and not really knowing what to expect after so many years of inactivity, I found myself pleasantly surprised by the new album. It definitely sounds closer to some of their earlier work, which is definitely not a bad thing in my opinion!

FIGHTSTAR は高校時代に良く聴いていて、大学に入る頃には僕のレーダーからは完全に外れたように思っていたんだ。彼らの新作の話を聞いた時、何年も活動していなかったのに何を期待して良いか分からなかったんだけど、聴いてみると嬉しい驚きだったね。完全に彼らの初期作に近いサウンドだったんだよ。僕の考えではそれは悪いことじゃないね！

CHON “GROW”

It will probably come to no surprise to anyone that I have a big fan of CHON. Combining re-recordings of older tracks with some stunning new material, CHON remind us how to properly do upbeat instrumental music and how to do it well.

僕が CHON の大ファンだと言ってもおそらく誰も驚かないだろう。昔の楽曲のリレコーディングと新しい魅力的なマテリアルで、 CHON はアップビートのインストミュージックの適切で上手いやり方を示してくれたね。

PLINI “THE END OF EVERYTHING”

Again, no surprises that I’m very fond of Plini’s music, given that I am friends with the man himself. 2015 was a great year for him, with the release of this stunning 3 track EP and touring with some amazing bands. I wish him all the best for what is already looking like an amazing 2016!

このチョイスも驚きではないだろうね。PLINI とは友達だし。2015年は彼にとって素晴らしい年になったよね。魅力的な３曲のEPをリリースして、驚くべきバンドたちともツアーを行った。最高の2016年も約束されているように思えるし、そうなるよう祈っているよ。

INTERVALS “THE SHAPE OF COLOUR”

2015 was a bit of a rough year for Intervals and Aaron Marshall personally, going through the break up of what had been the core of Intervals for so long and dealing with some personal health issues. Regardless, Aaron and some like-minded people came together to bring use The Shape of Colour, a release that takes Intervals in a different style that what we’re maybe used to, but a style I very much enjoy!

INTERVALS と Aaron 個人にとって2015年は少し厳しい年だったね。長い間かけて築き上げた INTERVALS のコアの崩壊を経験したし、健康面の問題もあったね。それでも Aaron と彼の同志たちが集まって “The Shape Of Colour” を製作したんだ。過去の作品とはスタイルが異なるけど、僕はとても気に入ったよ！

BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME “COMA ECLIPTIC”

Between the Buried and Me were another band that I had never really had that much exposure to, but after hearing Coma Ecliptic I immediately went and listened to the rest of their back catalogue. BTBAM are exactly what I look for in a progressive metal band and this album really stands out in that regard.

BTBAM もあんまりよく知らないバンドだったんだけど、 “Coma Ecliptic” を聴いてすぐ彼らの他の作品も聴きに行ったんだ。BTBAM は僕がプログメタルバンドに望むものを完璧に持っているし、このアルバムはそういった観点で本当に際立っているよ。

TESSERACT “POLARIS”

What else is there to say about TesseracT that hasn’t been said already? Seeing the return of Dan Tompkins on vocals, Polaris seems more like a continuation of what they started to do with their style with Altered State and I love every single minute of it.

もはや TESSERACT については語られ尽くした感もあるよね。ボーカルの Dan Tompkins が復帰し、”Polaris” では彼らが “Altered State” で始めたスタイルをさらに推し進めたように思うよ。アルバムの全ての瞬間を愛しているよ。

PERIPHERY “ALPHA/OMEGA”

I’m counting these both as a single album because I always listened to the two of them back to back and I need to cheat to add more releases. Periphery always seem to outdo themselves with every release in terms of song-writing, production and their cohesiveness as a band after being Misha’s project for so long pre-Periphery I and these these two really stand as a testament to that.

僕はこの2枚を1枚のアルバムにカウントしたよ。この２枚はいつも続けて聴いているし、他にも入れたいアルバムがあったからね。PERIPHERY はリリースする度、作曲とプロダクションで前作を凌いでくるよね。”Periphery 1″以前に Misha のソロプロジェクトだった頃に比べると、この２枚は彼らの団結心をよく示していると思うな。

【MESSAGE FOR JAPAN】

As I’m sure you’re all aware, I’ll be coming to Japan this year in May for some very special shows with Reflections, Cyclamen and one of my all time favourite bands, Protest the Hero. Japan has always been a place I’ve wanted to visit for many years, even more now since I’ve immersed myself in more of the otaku or geek culture Japan has to offer.
I’m looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible while I’m over there! My plan is to stay for a few weeks so there will definitely be hangouts, guitar workshops, and anything else that I can organise to happen while I’m over there. Hope to see you all soon!

みんなもう知っていると思うけど、今年の５月に日本に行って、REFLECTIONS, CYCLAMEN, そして僕のオールタイムフェイバリットである PROTEST THE HERO とスペシャルなショーを行うんだよ。日本は何年も前から常に訪れたい場所だったし、今は日本のオタク文化にどっぷり浸かっているから尚更だよ。出来るだけ多くのファンに会えるのを楽しみにしているんだ！何週間か滞在する予定だから、遊びに出かけたり、ギターワークショップ、他にもいろいろと出来るはずさ。すぐに会えるよ！
